DERBYSHIRE CHURCHES AND CHAPELS PRESERVATION TRUST – This year’s Ride and Stride is being held on Saturday, September 11 and a list
of places of worship open for this event is available at the back of church. If you are able to cycle or walk to any of the churches,
sponsorship forms are available from the office. Volunteers will be needed at the church centre to provide and help with light
refreshments (tea and squash). If you are able to help, please add your name to the rota at the back of church.

EDEN YOUTH GROUP – Heather and Dave Bull are stepping down from leading this group of mid- to older teenagers from the summer
onwards. Please pray for new leaders to emerge to take on this important work.

`THE WORD FOR TODAY” – The autumn 2010 issue of this daily devotional is now available in the book stand at the back of church.
Please take one. You may also be aware that it is now possible to receive UCB programmes on digital radio.

 “SPEAK UP, READ OUT AND PRAY ALOUD” - There are diocesan training events this autumn designed to help those who take part in public
worship. Parts 1 & 2 are on 21st Sept and 7th Dec (both Tuesdays from 7.30-9.30pm) at Littleover Methodist Church, cost £8 per
session (help available with the cost on request). Speak to Alan if you’re interested.

THE COMMUNITY MISSION CONFERENCE – Friday 1 Oct 10am-4pm at Westminster Chapel, London, partly sponsored by Tearfund, cost £25 (£20
if booked before 1 Aug). Some are already planning to go to this. If you’re interested in joining them, contact Jane Taylor.

PASTORAL TEAM/TRANSPORT NEEDS – We would really welcome a few more people on the list that we already have, of volunteers to help with occasional lifts to church on Sunday or during the week, with shopping and visits to the doctor etc. You can specify when and how often you could do this! We are very grateful to those who already help in this way. Please speak to John Owen or Mary Staunton if you can help.

MICKLEOVER CHURCHES YOUTH TRUST – update. As Heather’s post will cease in October, the Trust is considering the way forward. Sean has contacted Nigel Pimlott from the Frontier Youth Trust and he is to be invited to come and talk to the trustees and advise us on possible strategies. The young people of Mickleover, through schools, churches and uniformed organisations will be canvassed during September to seek their ideas and opinions. It is hoped that a Visioning Day will be arranged in October – this will include the young people, church members of all ages and outside agencies. Following this the the Trust would like feedback from all interested parties as to what is needed and how this may be achieved.
Please keep the work of the Trust in your prayers as we try to work with young people in Mickleover.                                                                                                          Alan Ward  (Trustee)

CHURCH WARDEN – Richard White was duly elected as church warden on Sunday 25 July and was officially admitted by the archdeacon on Tuesday 27th. We look forward to working with him and Geoff Pickering in this role.

MEDITATION PRAYER – I am leading an evening on Meditation Prayer on Monday. 2nd August at 7.30pm in the Church. There are a few places still available. Please ring me this week if you are interested. PLEASE NOTE  that this is a repeat of the evening that I ran on 22 June and is only open to people who did not come on that occasion.                          Mary Staunton

there to give your support and continue to pray for our warden team and everyone that they work with.

MOTHER’S UNION – Our next meeting, on July 28, at 7.30pm in the Church Centre is a ‘do it ourselves’ evening. Please would each
member bring along a memento or treasure that means something special to them and be able to share its story with us in an informal
setting as we talk together.

MICKLEOVER FUN DAY – A community event on Vicarage Road Park on Sat 24 July. Would anyone be interested in organising a stall of
cakes and literature for this, along with those from other churches? If so, please speak to Sean for details of the event.

ROOF REPAIR PROJECT – latest situation. Engliah Heritage has finally agreed to give us a grant of £33,000 towards the repairs to the
church roof. It is also proposed to undertake additional work outside this grant-aided work. To this end, a contract has been signed
between ourselves and the chosen contractor, for work to start at the beginning of August with completion estimated to be by the
beginning of December 2010.

MICKLEOVER METHODIST CHURCH OPEN GARDENS WEEKEND. Saturday July 17th and Sunday 18th 2-5pm. 12 Gardens to visit! Leaflets about this
event are available at the back of church.

CHURCH CLEANING- HELP NEEDED. We are now looking for a new team of cleaners
(2-3people) and need more volunteers to give an hour or so of their time every 7-8 weeks. Cleaning can be done at any time during the
week unless there is a service. If you, or anyone you know would be able to help, please give me a call.
Thanks to everyone at present on the rota, for all their hard work.                           Pam Meacham.
